Lauren (Squires) Ready (’08) Wins Emmy Award

When Lauren (Squires) Ready (’08) began producing video on the Carpenter Street Bike Shop in Memphis, Tenn., she wasn’t sure what the final story would be or where it would take her.

Turns out it pedaled the Media Studies alumna all the way to an Emmy Award.

“It’s an absolute dream and honor to receive a Regional Emmy,” Ready said. “I’m still shocked. The film really is a perfect example of mission and dream coming together.”

Ready founded the media firm, Forever Ready Productions, LLC, in 2014 to work with non-profits, small businesses and start-ups to create fast-paced, high-quality video content for them.

“Bike Lee” tells the story of Memphis area youth gaining life skills at the Carpenter Street Bike Shop, a program that offers bike manufacturing and repair classes. The film is told from the perspective of Lee Evans, “Bike Lee”, who was instrumental during the inaugural year of the shop’s training program. The short film on his impact took home the top award in the Magazine Segment category.

Ready explained, “The short documentary was a passion project of mine; a story that needed to be told. I started capturing what was happening on Carpenter Street and my team encouraged me to share it with the world.”

That team includes two other Loras Media Studies alumni, Julie White (’17) and Brody Kuhar (’18), and Ready says she is always looking to bring more Duhawks on board.

“Bike Lee” was one of two of Ready’s films nominated for an Emmy in 2018, along with “Melrose Stadium Friday Night Lights.”
