DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras College marked its eighth Duhawk Day with a total 1,889 donors, surpassing the goal of 1,839, the year Loras was established! The College’s community of students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends joined forces to celebrate on Wednesday, March 11. All gifts received on Duhawk Day benefit current students and the entire campus.
“What a day!” Brien Nugent (’17), director of annual giving, said. “The support from everyone on campus, across the nation and around the world was amazing.”
Since 2013, Duhawk Day has provided an opportunity for the Loras community to come together and celebrate, unite and support Loras College. Philanthropy is at the core of this day and has an impact on our current and future generations of Duhawks.
To encourage participation for Duhawk Day 2020, donors came forward with 10 matching gift challenges. “Once again, Duhawks proved that Duhawk Day is the best of the best with an overwhelming response,” said Mike Doyle, vice president for institutional advancement/treasurer and a 1991 Loras graduate. “For the past eight years, Duhawks across the country have answered the call to help us surpass our donor goal in a single day.”
During the 24 hours, friends of the College are encouraged to come together, wear purple and gold and share photos and video from their celebrations using #DuhawkDay on social media or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Updates were posted throughout the day on the Loras College Alumni Facebook Page and other Loras College social media platforms.
Locally, Duhawks gathered at multiple locations including the Alumni Campus Center and Dimensional Brewery, as well as regional venues in Des Moines, Madison and Rockford among others.
