LWLA Hosting a Virtual Book Club

The Loras Women’s Leadership Alliance (LWLA) will host a virtual book club this fall for the book The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World by Melinda Gates with an online discussion November 10 at 7 p.m.

“We are looking forward to being able to engage a broader audience with the LWLA,” Cayla Schneider, development officer, said. “The LWLA Board has been working hard coming up with new ideas to continue to carry out their mission this fall to connect with the greater Loras community, and the virtual book club seemed to really take flight.”

Author Melinda Gates is the co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the world’s largest philanthropy. She is also the founder of Pivotal Ventures, an investment and incubation company working to drive social progress for women and families in the United States.

The Moment of Lift is a personal statement of passionate conviction that tells of Gates’ journey from a partner working behind the scenes to one of the world’s foremost advocates for women, driven by the belief that no one should be excluded, all lives have equal value, and gender equity is the lever that lifts everything.

Thought-provoking questions and trivia related to the book will be shared out each week on Loras College social media based on the following suggested reading timeline to assist in preparing for the discussion:

Week 1: October 5 – 9, Intro. -Chapter 3

 Week 2: October 12 -16, Chapters 4-6

 Week 3: October 19 – 23, Chapters 7-9
