Recent Graduate Gives Back on Duhawk Day

Lindsay Lannen (’19) didn’t become a Duhawk until her third year of college.

She was a student and volleyball player at a university in West Virginia when she began to realize how much she liked the Midwest and missed her parents, Larry and Cheryl Lannen of Tinley Park, Ill.

“I wanted to be my own individual,” she said of graduating from high school and moving away nearly 600 miles for her first two years of college.

Then, she listened to Dylan Ross (’18), a friend from when she was in high school. “He told me how much I would like the women’s volleyball coach and team, the academic programs, campus community and all that Loras has to offer,” Lannen said.

Lindsay then transferred to Loras, where she finished her last two years, playing on the women’s volleyball team and earning a degree in Kinesiology.

Lindsay’s experience made supporting Loras on Duhawk Day in both of her years as a student an easy decision. She was among the record 395 students who made a gift on Duhawk Day this year, nearly tripling student participation from 2018.

“Participation is so important to the College and Duhawk Day is one way for students and alumni to showcase their pride and support in a 24-hour period,” said Brien Nugent (’17), director for annual giving. “Regardless of the amount that is given, large or small, participation makes a tremendous impact on our current and future generations of Duhawks.”

Lannen was eager to help. “I enjoy giving back to the place that has given me so much,” she said. “I want to help out in any way possible.”

This fall, Lannen will begin a three-year doctorate program in physical therapy at Clarke University, but she always will be a loyal Duhawk.

“While I regret not being a Loras student for all four years of my undergraduate degree, the two years I spent at Loras were the best two years of my life and I will be forever grateful for my time there and all I experienced,” she said.
