Sergio Pérez (’13) Named College Diversity Officer/Advisor to the President

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras College announced Sergio Pérez (’13) has been named College Diversity Officer/Advisor to the President. In this new position, he will continue the College’s efforts to become more diverse, inclusive and just.

“I have no doubt that Sergio will continue to serve as a great colleague, mentor, and leader for our campus community,” President Jim Collins (’84) said. “Further, I have full confidence in his ability to successfully champion our work in becoming A Loras Community for All.”

Pérez will continue to serve as director of the Center for Inclusion & Advocacy. Among his new responsibilities, he will lead the College’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives by developing training opportunities, facilitating campus-wide discussions, and leading the College’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee to create a strategic plan.

“I look forward to institutionalizing the critical and necessary work that encompasses diversity, equity, and inclusion,” Pérez said. “I also look to our faculty, staff, and students to join in on this movement in bringing greater alignment between what we say we do with what we ultimately do.”

Pérez received his undergraduate B.A. degree from Loras with double majors in Political Science and International Studies before securing an M.S.Ed. in Student Affairs Administration from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. He is currently a doctoral candidate in Higher Education Leadership at Edgewood College in Madison, Wis.

As he moves into his new role, Pérez is optimistic about the College’s ability to set a standard for other institutions.

“The work is immense, but so is the will and spirit of our campus community, and I have no doubt we will see experiences we haven’t seen before. Justice work begins by organizing appropriately, and I look forward to leveraging all community members to make the College a leader in higher education.”


Sergio Pérez (’13) Nombrado Oficial/Asesor de Diversidad Universitaria del Presidente

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras College anunció que Sergio Pérez (’13) ha sido nombrado Oficial/Asesor de Diversidad Universitaria del Presidente. En esta nueva posición, continuará los esfuerzos del Colegio para ser más diverso, inclusivo y justo.

“No tengo ninguna duda de que Sergio continuará sirviendo como gran colega, mentor y líder para nuestra comunidad del campus,” dijo el presidente Jim Collins (’84). “Además, tengo plena confianza en su capacidad para defender con éxito nuestro trabajo para convertirnos en una comunidad de Loras para todos.”

Pérez continuará como director del Centro para la Inclusión y Apoyo. Entre sus nuevas responsabilidades, dirigirá las iniciativas de Diversidad, Equidad e Inclusión del Colegio desarrollando oportunidades de capacitación, facilitando discusiones en todo el campus y liderando el Comité de Diversidad e Inclusión del Colegio para crear un plan estratégico.

“Espero institucionalizar el trabajo crítico y necesario que abarca la diversidad, la equidad y la inclusión,” dijo Pérez. “También busco que nuestros profesores, personal y estudiantes se unan a este movimiento para lograr una mayor alineación entre lo que decimos que hacemos con lo que en última instancia hacemos.”

Pérez recibió su licenciatura de Loras con doble especialización en Ciencias Políticas y Estudios Internacionales antes de obtener un M.S.Ed. en Administración de Asuntos Estudiantiles de la Universidad de Wisconsin La Crosse. Actualmente es un candidato de doctorado en Liderazgo de Educación Superior en Edgewood College en Madison, Wis.

A medida que avanza en su nuevo cargo, Pérez es optimista sobre la capacidad del Colegio para establecer un estándar para otras instituciones.

“El trabajo es inmenso, pero también lo es la voluntad y el espíritu de nuestra comunidad del campus, y no tengo ninguna duda de que veremos experiencias que no hemos visto antes.
